Building Service Engineering Technicians are responsible for the general performance of a building. Apprentices will play a key role in the planning and completing of maintenance work in industrial and commercial building services engineering systems. These include ventilation, heating, water supply, drainage and waste. The Level 3 Building Services Engineering course will provide learners with detailed knowledge of system operating principles. Apprentices will be expected to undertake any remedial repair and complete planned preventative maintenance work. They must also be able to take responsibility for fault finding and diagnosis, repair and maintenance systems. Learners will be required to demonstrate competence in health and safety, communication, quality control and environmental requirements. The 24-month apprenticeship course is highly independent. Building Services Engineering Technicians work in both occupied and unoccupied facilities without supervision. Candidates must also be able to do so in an appropriate, ethical and economical manner.
The ESFA apprenticeship funding requires candidates to allocate a minimum of 20% of their contractual working hours to the programme over each 12-18 month programme period. (This includes learning related activities in the workplace) The blended programme would be delivered as follows:

The end-point assessment is separate to any qualifications or other assessment that the apprentice may undertake during training. The apprentice will not be able to achieve the apprenticeship without passing the end-point assessment.
The assessment should include a minimum of two different assessment methods.
End point assessments give assurance that the apprentice possesses the knowledge, skills and behaviours to be fully competent in the occupation.
End point assessments are undertaken by an independent third party who has had not been involved in the training or line management of the apprentice, and who is on the Register of Apprenticeship Assessment Organisations.
Please note: If the candidate does not pass the end point assessment the employer will be liable to pay Skills4Stem the outstanding 20% of the fee via invoice.
